How to Use Bendable Hoops
Fitting your hoop starts with a small, gentle sideways twist. Follow our guide to opening, fitting and closing bendable hoops while keeping their shape.
Bendable Hoops at a Glance
Keep the movement small and controlled, from opening to closing.
Twist Sideways
Move one end towards you and the other away from you.
Keep the Gap Small
Open only as far as needed to fit the hoop.
Protect the Shape
Avoid pulling the ends apart to make the ring wider.
Close Gently
Reverse the twist until the ends line up neatly.
Bendable hoops have limits. Excessive opening or repeated bending can weaken the metal and cause it to distort or snap. Use the smallest practical opening and stop if considerable force is needed.
What Is a Bendable Hoop?
A bendable hoop opens by gently moving its ends sideways. It has no hinged section to lift and does not click shut.
Check that your product description states bendable closure before following this guide. Hinged clickers and captive bead rings use different opening methods.
One end towards you. One end away.
Keep the circular outline of the hoop as you gently move its ends out of alignment. You are creating a small sideways opening, rather than stretching the ring into a wider circle.
Grip plain metal near the opening. Avoid pulling on crystals, charms or decorative settings.
How to Open, Fit & Close Your Hoop
Work with clean, dry hands, good lighting and a mirror. Check that the gauge and internal diameter suit your fully healed piercing.
Find the Opening
Locate the join and hold the plain metal close to either side of it. Make sure you can grip the ring comfortably.
Gently Twist Sideways
Move one end towards you and the other away from you. Open just enough to guide the smooth end through your piercing.
Guide the Hoop Through
Carefully guide the smooth, open end through your healed piercing. Take your time and keep the movement gentle.
Twist Back Into Alignment
Slowly reverse the opening movement until the ends line up neatly. Check that neither end sticks out and the hoop sits comfortably.
Three Mistakes to Avoid
Careful handling helps protect the shape and finish of your hoop.
Opening Too Far
A large opening puts unnecessary strain on the metal. Keep the sideways gap as small as practical.
Repeated Bending
Repeatedly opening, closing and reshaping the hoop can weaken the metal, even when it still looks intact.
Forcing the Jewellery
Avoid household pliers and excessive force. These can mark the finish, damage delicate details or distort the ring.
How to Remove a Bendable Hoop
Create a Small Opening
With clean, dry hands, use the same gentle sideways twist to move the ends out of alignment. Open only as far as necessary.
Carefully Guide It Out
Gently guide the hoop out through your piercing. Stop if it will not move comfortably and ask a professional piercer for help.
- Do not pull it out while closed.
- Do not stretch the ring wider.
- Avoid unnecessary opening and closing once removed.
Common Bendable Hoop Questions
How wide should I open my hoop?
There is no fixed gap that suits every hoop and piercing. Use the smallest opening needed to fit it, with a gentle sideways twist. If you need a large gap or considerable force, stop and ask for help.
Why is my hoop difficult to open?
Resistance varies with the design, thickness and material. Do not force it or use decorative settings for leverage. Contact us with the product details, or ask a professional piercer to help.
My hoop is out of shape. Can I bend it back?
Stop handling it rather than repeatedly trying to reshape it. Do not wear a hoop that is cracked, has a rough edge or will not align properly. Email support@cherrydiva.co.uk with your order number and a clear photo so we can advise.
Can I use this guide for a hinged clicker?
No. This guide applies to products described as having a bendable closure. A hinged clicker opens at its hinged section; check the product information before trying to bend any hoop.
Can I change my hoop every day?
Repeated opening and closing can gradually weaken or distort bendable hoops. If you change jewellery frequently, ask us about a suitable closure and fit for your piercing.
Need help with fitting?
This guide is for fully healed piercings. If your piercing is new, irritated or difficult to reach, speak to a professional piercer before changing your jewellery. Never force a hoop through a piercing.
